APRIL 1ST SPECIAL
Generating energy with moonlight,
how does that work?
We are all familiar with solar panels. They convert sunlight into electricity and help you keep your energy bills under control. But what if we could take that technology one step further? What if you could also generate energy at night? On April 1st, Solar Assistance is launching a new technological masterpiece: solar panels that run on moonlight.
“Even while you sleep, you can now generate extra energy”
Jürgen Donné, CEO of Solar Assistance
Moon panels are an innovative variation of classic solar panels, designed to generate energy from indirect light, such as moonlight. Where traditional panels depend on direct solar radiation, this technology focuses on utilizing extremely low light intensities. The idea sounds simple, but technically it is anything but.
The difference between sunlight and moonlight
To understand how solar panels work on moonlight, we first need to look at the difference between sunlight and moonlight. Sunlight is powerful and contains a high energy intensity. This makes it ideal for classic photovoltaic cells.
Moonlight, on the other hand, is actually reflected sunlight, and represents only a fraction of the original energy. The intensity is up to 400,000 times lower than direct sunlight. This means that standard solar panels can practically do nothing with it.
Innovative technology
Moon panels use modified photovoltaic cells with extremely high sensitivity to light. These panels are composed of:
Ultra-sensitive semiconductors
Which react to very low photon energies and can detect even minimal light incidence.
Nano-structures on the surface
Which capture and concentrate the available light to the maximum extent.
Optimized coatings
Which minimize reflection and better absorb the available light.
Customized electronics
Which can collect and store small amounts of energy even at very low yields.

PS: Did you realize it yet?
It’s April 1st. And moon panels are not yet a reality for now. But loss of efficiency due to dirt or malfunctions? That happens every day. And we are happy to help you with that.
