Removal and reinstallation of solar panels

Relocating solar panels may be necessary both to increase energy output and for practical reasons, such as renovations or moving.

Proper repositioning ensures that your solar energy system continues to perform at its best and that you get the most out of your investment.

Disassembly and reinstallation

Dismantle and reinstall your solar panels?

Higher yields through optimal positioning

Reduce shading → Over time, trees, new buildings, or antennas can cast shadows on solar panels, reducing energy production. Moving them to a sunnier location increases efficiency.

Roof renovation or remodeling

Replacing or repairing a roof → During roof renovations or when replacing roof tiles, solar panels must be temporarily removed and reinstalled later.
New roof type → Some people switch to a green roof, a different type of roofing, or an insulated roof, which requires the panels to be relocated.
Home expansion→ When adding an extra floor or a dormer window, solar panels may get in the way and need to be relocated.

Moving or reusing solar panels

Taking solar panels to a new home → If someone moves and doesn’t want to leave the panels behind, they can be dismantled and reinstalled at the new location.
Reuse on another building → Solar panels can be moved to a shed, garage, carport, or other outbuilding to create a more efficient layout.

Correcting installation errors

Improper installation → If the initial installation was performed incorrectly (e.g., poor assembly, incorrect wiring, or unsafe construction), relocation is necessary to prevent damage or energy loss.
Too close to the roof edge → In some cases, panels are installed too close to the edge, which can cause additional wind loads and result in damage during stormy weather.

Switch to a better system

Installation of a new mounting system → Relocation may be necessary when upgrading to a solar tracker (which follows the sun) or another type of mounting system, such as an aesthetically integrated solar panel system.
Expansion of the solar farm → If additional solar panels are installed, it may be necessary to rearrange the existing panels to create a more efficient layout.
